Every business needs to have an internet presence so that they can stay ahead of the competition. If your business offers good or services which may be marketed on the internet then you will need to set up an ecommerce website. An ecommerce website is simply another name for an online store front.

Ecommerce

Building an ecommerce website from scratch can be quite difficult and expensive. The shopping cart and payment modules are very difficult to implement. This type of software is very flexible as it’s possible to make the ecommerce website behave exactly as required. However, coding your own website from the bottom up will be very time consuming and could also be expensive if you outsource the development.

Ecommerce Systems

Instead of building a website yourself, it is possible to use a pre-made ecommerce system. Ecommerce software packages include all of the modules that you need and can easily be integrated into your website.

There are many different ecommerce packages available. Some of them are quite expensive and can be difficult to customise.

Freeware Ecommerce Systems

There are also freeware, open source ecommerce packages which are available. One of the most popular is OSCommerce. There are also other examples of open source ecommerce packages including CREreloaded and ZenCart, both of which are based on oscommerce.

Magento and Joomla also have their own ecommerce modules which makes it possible to use them as online stores.

Installing OsCommerce

OsCommerce is very easy to install. The easiest way is to install it through Fantastico which can be found in the cPanel hosting control panel. Other hosts will also have their own automated installers for ecommerce software.

If this isn’t possible then it’s also an option to download the installation files from the internet. These files will need to be unzipped to a folder on your computer. Then using an FTP client the files can be uploaded. It’s then simply a matter of following the installation instructions in your browser.

Setting up OsCommerce

Once OsComerce is installed on your web hosting account, you then need to customize the software. It’s possible to use template systems such as the Simple Template System to adjust colors, buttons, and background images.

There are a number of different add ons which can be installed to your Oscommerce installation. These will add extra features and customizations.

Security

If you are running an ecommerce website then you will need to collect sensitive information from your customers. To give them confidence in your site it is important that you use SSL security certificates. This will ensure that all the information is encrypted so that the data is not at risk.

Promotion

Ecommerce sites are very popular because they provide a convenient way to buy anything. This means that if your business is run properly then it can make a lot of money. However, with so much competition you will need to work hard to promote your business properly.

Related posts:
<ul

Each module is responsible for a different set of tasks that can be executed at will to perform a variety of functions within the site’s backend interface. The control panel is usually segmented into different sections that pertain to different areas of website creation, management and optimization. Although every control panel is different, they all have certain modules in common, such as the FTP account module, the File manager module, and most notably the email account manager module. Successfully administrating a successful website requires the use of one or more email accounts setup properly.

Setting Up Email Accounts

Setting up email accounts within the email account management module is usually pretty simple, but may vary depending upon the control panel you are using. Generally you would simply choose a site from a dropdown list of domains that are loaded into your web hosting account, and then you would choose a prefix for the email account, which is the part the comes before the @ symbol. For example, you may want your email address to be – myemailaddress@mydomain.com. You would then set up a password and log into the email account to setup your favorite email client such as SquirrelMail or RoundCube.

Setting Up AutoResponders

An autoresponder is an integrated serverside software that automatically responds to email inquires based on a set selection of criteria. Many control panels include autoresponder functionality by default, however there are also more capable autoresponder solutions such as Aweber that can be installed via installation utilities such as Fantastico and SimpleScripts. Autoresponders are often used in the world of eCommerce sites to respond to customers that are in need of assistance, and that ask questions that have already been answered on numerous occasions, almost like an interactive FAQ. Autoresponders are also used to respond to general inquiries with pricing lists and other information that can be automatically sent.

Setting Up Filters

Filters can be used to send certain emails to certain folders, or even other email inboxes. For example, you may want to send all emails that contain the words “pricing”,“prices”, or “pricelist” to a folder named “Pricing.” Or you may want to send all emails form a particular client to their own folder. All of this and more can be done within the filtering options of your email client which can be found within your web hosting control panel. You can also set up filters that send emails with certain titles to certain folders. In general, a filter can be applied to virtually any criteria that can be identified within an email.

Setting Up Employee Emails

Another way you can use the email account management module to control the input and output of your workforce is to set up employee emails, in which employee of your website has their own email address. This is particularly useful when operating a multifaceted site with multiple service departments and supervisors. You can set up permissions for each email address, even restricting some to read-only status if necessary.

Related posts:
<ul

This decision will affect the overall productivity of your online business. Depending on your goals, you’ll want to choose a control panel that is both user-friendly and feature packed, to ensure you get the most out of your web hosting experience. Choosing the wrong control panel can result in countless hours of frustration and confusion, so it is important that one reviews their options carefully before making a final decision.

This article will allow one to make the most informed decision possible, by providing a detailed summary of the top three web hosting control panels .

cPanel

cPanel is likely the most common control panel used today. It’s popularity can be attributed to its user-friendly interface and wide array of features. The standard cPanel account comes equipped with two different hosting interfaces that make it ideal for managing an online business. These two interfaces are the WHM and cPanel itself. WHM (Web Host Manager), is the software used to create new hosting accounts and packages. The WHM is used to perform various management functions, such as adding/spending customer accounts, monitoring resource usage, changing passwords, parking domains, and installing SSL certificates . One of the biggest advantages of a cPanel account is the included third-party application “Fantastico” that allows one to enhance their site’s overall quality by incorporating a wide array of useful add-on applications.

H-Sphere

H-Sphere is a highly versatile control panel that supports both Windows and Linux platforms. This control panel lets administrators manage several different servers from one computer. H-Sphere behaves much like a server itself, offering a variety of turn-key features like payment processing, account configuration, domain name registration and email notification. It also includes support for more than twenty payment gateways, and it even comes with a built-in billing module. Since H-sphere is equipped with so many useful features it is often considered much less user-friendly than most of the other control panels available. Although the overall design of H-sphere gives it a steep learning curve, this control panel can still be mastered with very little foreknown knowledge in PHP, HTML, or FTP.

Plesk

Plesk is well-renowned as one of the most secure and stable control panels on the market today. Many of it’s users appreciate it’s easy-to-learn navigation, well designed interface, and overall appearance in general. Plesk offers a variety of beneficial features, including an automated application installer that is much like Fantastico. Plesk also comes equipped with a site builder and a powerful spam filter, Spam Assassin. This particular control panel also works well with other solutions offered by its developer; SWsoft. The most notable application that Plesk integrates well with is HSP. HSP fully automates the process of administrative tasks such as payment processing and email notification.

Regardless of which control panel you decide to use, all of the control panels mentioned here are a viable solutions for all of your web hosting tasks.

Related posts:

As a website grows larger and more complex, many webmasters discover that static HTML pages make it much harder to update and keep track of the content it contains. At the same time, several webmasters assume that keeping up with a dynamic site is such a challenge that it can only be maintained by technical geniuses. This is especially true if you own a large site with a lot of content. Although managing such a site requires some level of skill, the curve of complexity can be shortened significantly with a software package like the Drupal CMS.

A CMS (content management system) is a specialize piece of software that allows you to efficiently maintain and update all the contents of your website. Drupal is one of the very best at this, offering tremendous out of the box functionality along with support for a number of additional modules that can be used to extend its default capabilities. Being an open-source software application, a community of users have contributed many components and modules for the overall betterment of the project.

Easy to Install and Set Up

Installing Drupal on your web hosting account is simple, especially when using an easy to use application installer such as Fantastico. After installing the program, you can go through the process of designing your site and select from the array of content types that it will be compromised of. A comprehensive wizard is available to walk you through the entire process and when setting things up, you are able to see a preview of what your site will look like when it is done. This gives you the luxury to go back and make edits at any point during the design process. Learning how to master the basic functions and options of Drupal is something that can literally be done in a matter of minutes.

The Benefits of Drupal Hosting

Due to its soaring popularity, Drupal has become a mainstay on the hosting market as several hosts now offer the software in their service plans at no additional cost. Even though it has a reputation for being more complex than similar packages such as Joomla, all it takes is a basic level of technical skills to create a powerful and professional Drupal site. In fact, if you can work with a simple word processing application and web browser, you can excel from the default functionality this dynamic CMS has to offer. Drupal requires no programming knowledge of PHP or HTML to either create, maintain or update your website.

Conclusion

Drupal is a robust software package that offers the ability to create, manage and update various types of content. It is primed for Web 2.0 applications so you can easily implement desirable features such blogs, forums and much more. There are many CMS hosting solutions on the market and honestly, Drupal may not be suited for your needs. For this reason, you should evaluate this product in and out to determine if it can meet your content management requirements.

Related posts:

osCommerce is one of the most widely used e-commerce shopping cart programs available on the market today. It is also an application that can be easily installed via Fantastico in your cPanel control panel. To help you in maximizing the benefits of this software, we will not only walk you through the steps of installing osCommerce, but also show you how to configure it to use with your dedicated or shared SSL certificate to ensure that your website transactions are secure.

osCommerce Installation

- Login into your cPanel account and click on the Fantastico icon at the bottom of the main page.

- Navigate to the “E-commerce” section and click on the “osCommerce” link.

- Next, click on the “New Installation” link.

- Now you must go through a multi-step process in order to define the installation location:

Step 1: Choose your domain from the provided drop-down menu.

Step 2: Enter the name of the directory where you want osCommerce to be installed.

Keep in mind that the “install in directory” field is the one part where several users make critical mistakes. Enter a single phrase of the new folder that will be created for the osCommerce application. If you try to add dashes, the installation will fail every time.

Step 3: Return back and double check the information you entered in the above field. If you want your customers to access your store when visiting “http://yoursite.com,“ you would then leave the “Install in Directory” field blank. On the other hand, if you already have an existing website, you want to enter a given directory name in that field. For example, if you decide to use “store” as the name of the directory, customers would access your osCommerce store by visiting “http://yoursite.com/store”.

- After entering the required information for the installation destination, enter a user name and password for your osCommerce administrative area.

- Next, enter the name of your store, an owner name, and valid email address.

Activate SSL

Once you have the installation destination squared away, the proceeding steps are self explanatory. The SSL process deserves a little more detailed explanation.

- Set the “Use SSL” option to”Yes”

- Enter the hostname for your secure server.

If you have a dedicated IP address and SSL certificate for your website, simply enter your domain name in the next field. If not, just use the server name entered above.

- Choose the information you want to require from your customers. You will see that these options are pretty straightforward and can be either set to “Yes or “No.”

- After entering the information, click on the “Install osCommerce” tab.

- Lastly, on the next page click “Finish installation”.

You have now successfully installed the osCommerce shopping cart program equipped with an SSL certificate for security. Now all you have to do is the click the provided link or type the appropriate URL into your browser to log in and set up your online store.

Related posts:

Formerly known as Lxadmin, Kloxo is a control panel that usually accompanies CentOS Linux-based VPS hosting packages. Offering a comprehensive web-based interface, the software enables various administrative tasks including database administration, domain and sub-domain management, email and file management, resource distribution and more. While more robust VPS control panels like HyperVM are mainly used for general management tasks such as maintaining server resources and power control, Klox is designed for everyday administration, making it a tool you will certainly want to become familiar with. However, because the two applications are so tightly integrated, all of Kloxo’s functions be accessed directly from the HyperVM control panel.
<p

One could say that cPanel is a trendsetter as more control panels are being developed with application installers that mimic the abilities of Fantastico.

Related posts:

Owned and distributed by cPanel Inc., the software is intended for the use of commercial web hosting companies, meaning it requires the purchase of a license. However, cPanel is available for certain entities at discounted prices. For example, non-profit organizations such as educational institutions can obtain a cPanel license for a reduced cost and sometimes free. Dedicated and managed hosting companies can also purchase licenses at a reduced price when installing the control panel with their operating system. cPanel is platform specific and runs on the Linux operating system. Some of the variations it supports include CentOS, Fedora, Mandiva, Red Hat and SUSE among others.

The cPanel software was originally designed for Speed Hosting, a web hosting company that is now defunct. Speed Hosting eventually merged with Web King, another web hosting provider that began using the software. From there, the new company moved its servers to VDI, (Virtual Development Inc.), a web hosting company that is no longer around as well. An agreement was made and cPanel was only made available to customers hosting with VDI. It was not until 1999 that cPanel became a significant force on the control panel market.

1999 marked the release of cPanel 3, a version that offered many new improvements, including the addition of WHM (Web Host Manager). Version 3 underwent a few upgrades including bug fixes and a facelift that gave it the default theme we all know today. Because of internal conflict between VDI and original developer Nick Koston, the software was divided into two separate control panels – cPanel and WebPanel, with the latter being used by VDI. Koston went on to work with other web hosts before deciding to focus solely on cPanel. Now on version 11, cPanel is stable, reliable and the most widely used control panel on the market.

cPanel Features

cPanel offers a great level of control to the end-user, allowing you to handle various operations such as managing files and FTP accounts, administering PGP keys, adding domain names and much more. The software also supports a number of third-party applications, the most popular being Fantastico. With Fantastico, you can install a wide variety of programs such as WordPress, phpBB, Drupal, Tiki Wiki, Joomla and more than 50 others.

cPanel sets itself apart from many web hosting control panels with the ability to manage applications independent of the operating system. For example, it can be used to automatically apply upgrades to software packages like PHP, the MySQL database server and Apache web server. This functionality helps web hosting companies make sure that packages are always up to date and remain compatible with cPanel. The power and simplicity of this control panel makes it a number one choice for server administrators and end-users alike.

Related posts:
<ul
