Hello, I am a mediocre unix admin, a website worker, a person whom have had multitudes of hosting providers over the years. My take is this. 1&1 is more the data center host. Yes, they have their 3 dollar accounts, but from my perspective having a dedicated server with them thus far, the service seems very good. Now, I don't ask many questions, seldom need support for anything as I have a technical degree myself. But let me ask you this... What company offers a Cisco parameter (edge) firewall with a dedicated server at no additional costs? Most hosts don't offer gateway services and if they do, they change a pretty penny for the same. Say another 50 bucks or better a month. I am paying roughly 135.00 a month for a dedicated 4 Core Xeon with 12G of RAM running Debian GNU/Linux. Provided was a Cisco hardware firewall, and a 250G remote backup for the price listed there. I say it's a great deal. If the server stays up with little issue for 6 months, I'll be staying. Thanks!

I have been a 1and1.com customer for over 5 years, with multiple domains and websites hosted by them. Never had a good experience with company. Customer service department is a black hole with condescending reps and a claimed inability to resolve issues. Will refer you to an email department. They don't like their customers and will be sure to explain to you that they have 10 million customers so whatever your issue, you are wrong. Would go elsewhere.

Contact the Pennsylvania Attorney Generals office. This company needs looked into. Everyone here is correct in their dealings as I also had a similar situation, only shortly after joining my credit card was frauded and cancelled. I won't let them bill my new card, and offered to pay them another way ..they flat out said no that I was under a contract and had to give my cc info. again ...I laughed. So now they are threatning my credit report ...lol These people at 1&1 are insane ... it really does seem like a front for something else because no one there knows what they are doing ... not even a little bit. I contacted the BBB the FTC and the Attorney Generals office. The fact that are still operating tells me something smells to high heaven. I would take everyone elses advise here and stay far far away .. it really isn't worth it especially because their "web builder" is a joke ..works sometimes and sometimes not. They don't even care about complaints or anything ..little dictators..lol

Fair warning. If you sign up with this company and then decide to cancel immediately (like I did) they will still charge you $60 dollars...my charges under a 9.99 plan. Good luck in trying to fine an explanation for that.

NEVER USE THEM!!!! WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!! I canceled, and went to go daddy, which was perfect, they set everything up and 3 days later we are STILL waiting for the email from 1&1 to authorize the domain transfer. Now they are trying to bill me for transferring!!! Lost days of business and $ because of them. NEVER USE THEM!!!!! Still waiting to get my domain back!!!!

After having 1and1 for a few years I am switching for sure. Their customer service is horrible. If you want to feel like you are dealing with an unthinking govt bureaucracy then go with 1and1. I recently had an issue where my credit card for auto payments didn't go trough so they locked my account and website. The notification email they sent me to inform me of this was sent AFTER they locked my email! So basically I never got notice. Then, they wouldn't unlock my account for almost 48 hours after I gave them a good card. Said there was nothing they could do to expedite it. The billing supervisor even told me "it wasn't her department" to unlock the account and refused to even transfer me to that department. She then told me again there was nothing she could do and hung up on me. Amazing. So I went two days with no website and emails. Probably lost over $2000 in business due to 1and1's unmovable "systems". This wasn't the only issue I've had with them, just the worst one.

Constant and I mean CONSTANT problems with billing not just once in awhile everytime you receive a bill. My credit card had expired that they had on file for the last 2 years and gave them the new number before the card was expired and updated all info with them and received a collection notice stating I was past due. I never received a call, email, letter,etc. the card was on file with the correct info and address and everything they needed. I ended up having to pay a $39 fee to creditor to save my credit score. I filed a complaint with the FTC and BBB with no resolution. When you call one of their first options is if you have received a letter from the collection agency. They are crooks in every way, if you don't believe me, please sign up for their services, but always remember I warned you.

I did a credit check recently and found a $30 balance from 1&1 under "Adverse accounts". Apparently attempts to cancel my account years ago failed and, when the credit card expired or I moved and it stopped working, they referred the account to a credit collection company. For $30. I contacted 1 & 1 and they said I had to talk to the credit collection company. The company was pretty rude and charged an additional $18.92 over the $30 balance to "settle the account". I wanted to pay with credit card which they wanted to charge me another $12 for "processing". So I mailed them a check instead, just to get this matter out of the way. I do not recommend this company. I think they will do whatever they legally can to trap their customers, prevent them from cancelling, and vindictively penalize them if they lapse. I hope that someone is turned off by this review and that it costs them more than the $48 it cost me to settle the account. Practices like this should not be profitable.

In all my life I have never dealt with such a moronic,fraudulent money grubbing organisation. You try and cancel correctly, as demanded you send your Driving licence, Birth certificate etc. It's either always ignored or conveniently lost. Phoning them you are pushed from pillar to post and treated like a piece of sh*t. Get this... I am currently being chased by their Bully boy Debt collectors for £5.00 plus expenses for a cancelled service. apparently they say they have local collectors that will call at my house if I don't pay up....unbelievable bunch of idiots. If this is the German way of doing business count me out. If you like experiencing stress, humiliation and depression, wasting hours on the phone, writing numerous letters and e-mails, and generaly running around in circles whilst jumping through hoops then welcome to '1&1 Internet'... All this because I thought it would be a good idea to buy one Domain name......
