Web Hosting Reviews, Ratings and Awards since 2004!
I wouldn't recommend this service to my worst enemy. They make it nearly impossible to cancel, play games with you and then talk down to you. No empathy what so ever and seem to get pleasure out of billing you for the contract term even if you haven't logged on after the trial period. Worst Hosting service by far! I have a dozen emails showing that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. They seem to really get a kick out of upsetting you and doing nothing at all to try and correct your bad experiences. Worst Company by far! I even filed a complaint with the FTC concerning their games and threats to hurt my credit. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT SIGNING UP, you will not have an easy time cancelling and even then they try and milk you for every penny they can get without even giving any service. I would give NO stars if it was possible.

I have been a loyal user of 1&1 since 2006. Over the years I started several companies, each with their own account at 1&1. In 2010 I stopped one company and terminated the web account associated with that account. I went to take out hosting and a new account with 1&1 last week and got an e-mail from 1&1 to say I have to pay for that old account first. 1&1 claim I never cancelled it and that they sent me an e-mail in 2010 where I needed to really confirm I wanted to cancel the account. I never got such an e-mail, 1&1 kept the account open, and even renewed the domain name without any payment from me. This is the first e-mail from them on the subject in two years! Now they claim I owe them $40 and have sent it to a collection agency. 1&1 are adamant that I need to pay the old bill so I took out the hosting with GoDaddy and paid them the $150 that I would otherwise have paid to 1&1. I don’t know what 1&1 support people are trained to do, but it’s not smart business practices ...

so after 7 years of automatic rebilling for my website domain name. When my Credit card expiration number expired and with in 24 hours later I called with a new year. I was informed that I had been put on a black list and they not want my business any longer. I was also told that i should transfer my domain over to another company. I called go daddy, who holds most of our later purchased domaine names. Godaddy was great at getting everything ready for the change over. So I called 1&1 back to start the process, that was Wednesday and I was told I would get an email no later than 48 hours from that time. Its now Monday morning and no email. When I called in I was told their internal system was down. However from reading past post here, I cried fowl and asked to wait for a supervisor. I also stated to the agent that I had read other complaints for the same thing online. The supervisor came on and gave me more lip service on the internal problem. stay away from them.

I can't recall the last time I've encountered service as bad as 1and1, in ANY industry. If you sign up for an account, eventually something WILL go wrong. Normally, this would be acceptable if they had decent customer support. However, their customer service is essentially non-existant. Oh, they will reply to your queries. But their replies will be like talking to a robot which only knows 10 sentences. If you have an issue that isn't one of their pre- configured responses, good luck on getting a resolution. You'll just keep hearing the same 'form' reply back over and over and over... Stay FAARRR away from these guys!!

1and1 Customer Support really sucks.. there solution to their messups is "do something yourself" my recent experience with a guy called "Mark" is that he raised his voice at me? what kind of company has a customer relationship management like this? Completely untrained in ethics and overloaded with work hence have no patience. i would say avoid at all costs! I am moving to another hosting provider. Customer Support believe me matters loads. I had a 1&1 site working well for several years. They changed their software and moved severs so that my site no longer works. They tell me it's a code problem, which means "your problem not ours". They refuse even to explain what they changed. The phone support is rude and completely unhelpful. Support via email is worse. The phone support people at least have a reasonable English fluency. I don't think the email support people can read English well. I only hope that I can switch hosts without the painful hassle others have had with 1&1.

Have been a customer of 1&1 since 2007, cancelled in 2009 because it was becoming too expensive, this is when I started to have problems.. firstly for the account I cancelled on - I had a bunch of domains attached to this account. Cancelling my server also cancelled all of these domain packages and caused me to lose all these domains too. Recovering these domains has been near impossible due to the fact that 1&1 Customer Support is filled with absolute morons who know nothing of what you'd expect a web hosts customer support to know. What has lead me to write this review though is due to a domain that expired 4 years ago. They have decided that I now owe them £7.18 for this and gave me no way to pay them. Instead they immediately passed on my information to a debt enforcement agency.. Oh and if the domain prices seem desirable - note that even if you only have a domain with them and cancel that domain - the "package" stays open for which you have to pay a fee! Avoid at all costs!

I have had a number of very frustrating experiences with 1and1 Tech Support and with their customer service. On two occasion it took them more than a week to process a domain transfer. They kept telling me it was a problem with their system and there was nothing they could do about it. This meant my projects were delayed by a week each time. It also meant I had very unhappy clients. When I took my concerns upline to the “complaints” department I received hard-nosed email responses that said they were unwilling to make good in any way. This is not the kind of customer experience I get with GoDaddy and other hosting services. I will never use 1and1 again. I will actively discourage my clients and others from wasting their time and money with 1and1.

If you make simple stuff hard, you're stupid. Just by that alone you already ahead of me, how can a million dollar company does not know what it's doing. I transferred three domain names over from one of their competitors. I love their domains price, but their control panel suck to hell! Just maintaining, buying, and updating, your domains will take you more than hours just to do something simple. They don't have point and click control panel. It's NOT idiot proof and everything felt like it's been hacked. Sometimes things don't work, I think they hired my brother to program the control panel. How can a million dollar com screw a simple stuff up, their main page is nice but under suck. The feature that they should have is auto and manual renew, but only auto renew. So when I signed up I picked manual, go figured why they have that. So now 3 domains are locked until I pay the extra $ to unlock my domains. The price is great and the headache you will get, it's not worth it!

This company, 1and1, is about the best example of a bad "bait and switch" company as it gets. Simply stating, we had decided to ignore all the negative reviews about 1and1.com and give them a try. Big mistake! Big mistake! As with every person who is submitting a negative review of this company, you too will learn if you desire to take a chance. I had to notify my bank and change my card number so that I do not become a victim of this company. They take your order, sign you up in the form of a so called contract and then they delay the contract so that they can later supply the actual service. Claiming there is a problem with the order and you will need to call and resolve the problem. During holidays, the 24/7 support is on holiday - not reachable! 24/7 support! Bottom line, I will not ignore all the negative reviews towards any company again. This company, 1and1 has many negative reviews - all truthful... and well deserved. DO NOT TRUST THEM. You will be sorry...
