Startlogic Customer Reviews

TERRIBLE SERVICE designed to upsell customer

Imagine going to a resteraunt sitting down and ordering a steak. the waiter brings your steak sets it down on the table with no fork or knife. The waiter has the silverware in their apron and they say: "what, you don't have your own? well i happen to be renting this fork and spoon if you like." Startlogic is a little worse because they will make you pay for the steak and take it back if you don;t have a fork and knife. it is a joke. i have had 4 accounts over the last 2 years for different projects and ventures. My experience has been less than perfect and i do not know why i even opened the last 2. oh yeah i remember. they deleted my account in a "un-scheduled" server upgrade" I guess i missed the email that advised me my web server was gong to be formatted? When i called they said i had to buy a new account. since i had no time and it was cheap i signed up. bad mistake because it has cost me hours . IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT WEB HOSTING> DO NOT BUY STARTLOGIC.

Startlogic do not acknowledge the Domain name they included

I recently took advantage of their $4.95 a month offer which included a free domain name . I choose one and startlogic do not acknowledge it and advised me to contact my hosting service . After pointing out that startlogic WERE my hosting service and the domain name was purchsed as part of my package they have gone very quiet . I have cancelled my account within the 30 day period - hopefully they will refund my money but the level of incompetence displayed so far does not fill me with confidence .

Good site for me

I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews of Startlogic, because my experience with them has been 100% positive. The only complaint I've ever had is that I thought the V-deck control panel would be harder to use than CPanel. That turned out not to be the case, and I've been able to do anything I needed to do with V-deck. I manage a large high-traffice forum on one of my sites, and recently moved two other sites from their previous host (IIC-Internet, don't get me started with them!) to Startlogic. When it was time to renew the hosting fee for my initial site with them, they emailed me ahead of time to let me know they would be charging my credit card. They didn't have to do that, but it was a nice little courtesy that I appreciated. I've needed to call tech support only once, and got an immediate response that completely answered my question. I'm in the process of moving another site to their service and hope I never need to have site hosting from anyone else.

Could their Customer Service be any WORSE??

Not just "worst web hosting customer service" but truly the worst customer service I've encountered ANYWHERE, at any business, period. Where else would u be told flat-out "NO" when you ask 2 speak 2 a supervisor? Happened to me several times. They wiped out 3000 of my emails (100% of 2 accounts) & after promising for months 2 restore them, arrogant tech calling himself "the Operations Director" said "yeah, we COULD restore them--they're on our server-- but we're not GOING to-- we're not going to go to all that trouble". I had to send 78 emails in 1 month, when they kept screwing up my account, wiping out mail, my site was down & they wouldn't fix it.They don't respond to support calls or emails.Hold time 4 Support often over 1 hour. Rude, clueless apathetic people staff the phones, w/ a few exceptions. "Upgrades" usually equal lost data, problems. Mail program won't even open attachments.Techs "temporarily" changed my passwords & "forgot" 2 change back--I couldn't get into my own site

No More!

I signed on with StartLogic because it sounded to good to be true. Well, it was. I canceled and was due a refund which I've never received. That was over a year ago. I re-uped with them under a new company name because I fell for the old "We've made it better line"! I lost all Christmas sales for '07 because I could not get my site up and running. Finaly a techie found the problem and admited it was StartLogics fault! Four and one half weeks with tech support on the phone every day is what it took! I'm tired of being made to feel like I'm stupid! At the end of this contracted year I will NEVER use StartLogic again.

Awful webhost

They are a very bad host. They screwed up lots of websites when they transitioned them to a new platform in 2008. The old server just went down and they failed to transition the websites to the new server. Our website lost all its rankings in Google thanks to Startlogic. The tech support is very incompetent and keeps telling you fairytales instead of solving your problem. The last few months our website experienced at least 1 day downtime a month. Beware!

Worst Hosting Provider

I signed on with Startlogic for a year thinking it was going to be a pleasant experience; I even bought the updated backup service they offer. Total $72.35 FIRST: their servers have gone down several times. SECOND: when I called customer support to ask why their servers were down I got the basic we're sorry line. Okay, then I asked a basic question about using a certain part of their control panel they call Vdek and the girl couldn't answer the question and she told me that I should take my business somewhere else. Wrong answer! I told her maybe I'll just do that and I did! THIRD: here's the kicker, I canceled within the allotted 30 day time period and when I tried to get my refund I was put on hold sometimes for over 10 minutes and each time I am told that I should expect a refund within the next 10 day's. What a bunch of crap, I first asked for my refund on July 8th. 2008 when I cancelled, today I was told the same story and that it would be another 7 to 10 days, It is now, August 28 2008. I would never recommend Startlogic to anyone! Steve Fisher

Don't use StartLogic! It is AWFUL!

This server was good when I signed up, but has been a mess ever since they switched to their new V-Deck format. I am wondering if management changed, then, too. Everything went downhill after that. My site goes offline frequently for no apparent reason. It is nearly impossible to get anyone to answer the phones or to return emails for tech support. They have made billing errors (without notification). Their techs are unfamiliar with Mac formats...so if you are a Mac user you are out of luck. My recommendation is to find a better server.

USER AGREEMENT=TRAP

I was about to sign up with StartLogic [SL] for a two-year term [unlimited transfer etc for $3.95/mo/24months]. However, I decided to read their USER AGREEMENT first. It is a legal trap protecting totally SL. For example, if the user wants to terminate for any reason, the user has to give 30 days notice AND pay $50 cancellation fee. In my case, if I signed up with them I would pay upfront about $100. If at the end of 23 months, I decide not to continue, I have give 30 days notice AND pay $50. If I decide to terminate early, say in 3 months, then besides $50 cancellation fee, they change the calculations to include setup fee, rate to regular rate, etc. In any case you have to pay them harshly in order to get rid of them. Further, Dot5Hosting, Powweb, and iPower's user agreements are word-to-word the same. They looked like a gang to me. I wonder how they really treat their customers?
