ThinkHost Customer Reviews

Not even sure they're green

Customer service: to be fair, over 3+ years, the customer service person has responded to almost all my requests - of which there were many. The user interfaces are difficult to use, especially the web email interface. If you want to change anything with your site, plan on submitting a support request and waiting for a few days. Note that they have no hierarchy of customer support. There is only one way to interface with them. Have a complaint? Too bad! There's noone else to address it to. When I expanded my service to include another website and email address, the new email and forms did not work; after 6 weeks, they are still not working and I have heard absolutely nothing from them. If they had given me some alternative course of action, or a temporary account or SOMETHING, I might bear with it. Negligence is unbearable, especially when I'm trying to run a business.

Criminals

After being for thinkhost for two years, with shotty uptime, I was charged for another two year contract with no notification and no way to check in the backend when my card would be charged again. I complained to customer service, but they had already denied me past requests for a refund. I placed a complaint about their billing procedures with the Better Business Bureau. Since then all of my requests have been forwarded to senior support engineers who will not respond. All of my sites have been down for several weeks. I have all of the files moved over to another host, but their system has made it impossible for me to download my database files. Since they won't respond to my requests through tech support, and all new requests are immediately either closed or forwarded to a senior support engineer who may or may not exist, I'm beginning to realize that all of the sites (some of which were volunteer projects for non-profits) are lost, and that I might hear anything. Much frustration.

Vice President

Customer service is non-existent with ThinkHost. They do not have a phone number that customers can call. Their servers are down about 10-20 percent of the time. My clients are always telling me when their emails are bouncing (due to ThinkHost server being down) which is completely unacceptable.

Stumbling through contract... no refund :(

You might call thinkhost a "host of problems." For the first few months my clients were completely dissatisfied with the uptime. For a while it was only 70%, which is abismal. Then I wasn't able to add any new domains for a while. And now I'm not able to create email accounts or forwarding. But as long as I'm willing to put up with tech support who answers tickets with irrelevant information and unrelated questions... then most major problems (fatal for my services) are resolved within 3 months. I wouldn't recommend these guys to anyone.

ThinkHost needs to think again

In the approximately 9 months that we hosted with ThinkHost, they could never get our site stable. It would be inaccessible a minimum of 10 minutes a day and suffered severe (over four hours) outages at least 5 times. For an ecommerce site this makes the hosting worthless. Tech support that we could contact could rarely provide any response other than escalating the request to a "senior" administrator. All the senior team seemed to do was triage which produced no improvement in performance or up-time. Finally, the MySQL database became corrupt. I opened the case at 1PM. The site came back briefly at about 3PM before tech support provided anything but a "we'll get back to you" and "your site looks fine to us". By 5PM the site was completely inaccessible, so I followed up on the case to note this. At 5:45PM tech support finally responded with "sorry for the inconvenience". I followed up again at 7:30PM (having heard nothing from them). They asked for my MySQL credentials 45 mi

Look for A Different Green Host

Signed up, demanded refund a week later. Fantastico installer did not install Wordpress properly, help pages were useless. Never got Wordpress to work right. No email address to contact, no live chat support, did not have phone number I could call (they have corrected this since I complained). Ran a WHOIS search on them to try to contact them, and they have a privacy service so I couldn't get address or contact info. Took 2 days before the system would let me submit a support ticket, partially because of software glitches and THEIR OWN WEBSITE kept going down. Avoid.

Not reliable with continous intermittend down time.

Very disappointed with web hosting down time. Received many complaints from clients about not being able to access my websites or emails would not reach me. I wouldn't use their services.

Stay away from Thinkhost!

Boy, how I wish I had read the reviews for Thinkhost out there before being ripped off… I wanted a green company to host my sites, so I signed up for an account, and quickly realized their admin panel was very unfriendly. I couldn't even set up a database without submitting a ticket for tech support! BTW, their support email is “no-reply@thinkhost.com,” so you know what that means… I immediately requested a cancellation and never got an email acknowledging the cancellation. When I finally contacted them through their email form (they do not have a phone number on their web site!!), they claimed they would not refund charges because they sent me an email in their “internal email system” with the cancellation form I needed to fill out, and that it was past their money-back trial period. I paid for a whole year! You call that socially responsible? I have tried several web hosts over the years, and Thinkhost is by far the WORST! Save yourself money a grief and find a different host
