And you thought “fracking” was a big problem.<\/p>\n

Friday May 18, 2012 Facebook went public, and the very same day SceneTap\u00a0was added to the repertoire of facial recognition apps available to the public. No organization has ever accumulated a larger database of who we are and then connected this database to photographs of what we look like than Facebook has. Facebook also developed facial recognition capacity to identify us by our photographs in order to make it easier for us to find and tag one another. There are, of course, some confidentiality problems involved: if your picture is posted, your identity<\/a> has been posted as well. Might as well post your fingerprints.<\/p>\n

SceneTap is one of the first forays into publicly usable phenotype recognition software.\u00a0 SceneTap uses photographs of all the customers that enter the bar to advertise to potential customers in real time based on the action going on within. Bars use SceneTap to scan the faces of their customers to discover their sex and age. Then they post that information to potential customers via their smart phones. Looking for lots of young guys and less young women? Check the bars using SceneTap, and choose where to pay the cover cost. Looking for older men or younger women? Same drill.<\/p>\n

When Facebook went public last week, in a sense, biometrics itself went public.\u00a0 And what is certain to follow is genetic game theory via phenotype recognition software\u2026 and the inevitable surgical counter measures. BangApps will be available, by year’s end. Bet on it. We will be able to search photo databases for people and read vastly more about those faces than those whose faces are posted would have expected. But even more invasive, we can now truly mine any face we see on the street for some surprisingly private information about the person behind that face. Among other implications, this new technology will create a booming business in facial cosmetic surgeries to hide or improve our genetic phenotypes.<\/p>\n

And men worried about the Katz’s Deli scene in Harry Met Sally<\/a>. Once BangApps becomes commonplace Cosmetic Surgical mate trickery will leap into the computer age too. Wow! Is that lip real?<\/p>\n

Bang apps will simply make use of the biometrics research that determines the relationships between facial phenotypes and health, background or even behavior.\u00a0 For example, the facial attribute of lip shape<\/a> is correlated with a woman’s likelihood of achieving orgasm. A cupid\u2019s bow upper lip indicates she is more likely to enjoy sex. Relative chin size<\/a> is correlated with faithfulness. Women with larger chins are more likely to cheat.\u00a0Facial symmetry is a strong indicator of fertility and health in both men and women, and even subtle distinctions between straight and gay women<\/a> show up in facial traits.<\/p>\n

The biology of biometrics is that brain development has a direct effect on facial traits, and as the various correlations between brain development and facial traits become more and more clear, the ability to scan a face for those traits will also become more and more accurate\u2014even by your iPhone. \u00a0Call me!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
