Never had a bad experience
I've used HostGator for years, and I've never had any trouble with them. For higher-grade technical projects, there are probably better hosting solutions (but also more expensive, e.g. DigitalOcean, AWS, etc.), but I've found HostGator is great for simple small business sites, and I tend to recommend it for small businesses that I build sites for (or for anyone using GoDaddy). It's necessary to know HostGator's limitations - i.e., your typical account is shared hosting (which can run slow and does occasionally crash like any server), and unmetered resources doesn't permit one to bloat the server - but as a web developer, perhaps a lot of this is more obvious to me than to some. I've even learned a great number of really useful tricks from their tech support! Probably the only drawback I'd mention is that they'll occasionally push offers in sometimes unclear ways (e.g., not immediately listing the true monthly cost / clickbaiting usually unneeded addons like SiteLock, etc.). With that said, I've always personally been careful to disregard clickbait / ads and look up the unstated details. Most other hosting companies also do this anyway.
