Despite the bad reviews, hostmonster is solid.

I've been with hostmonster for about 4 years. Like many people, when frustrated with them I've thought about going to another host. I even started a hosting package with A2 hosting but cancelled b/c it's 24/7chat service is false. Just tickets that take hours to be answered. Let me break it down for you. Yes, I've talked with tech support that know almost nothing. And yes, cpanel has gone down in the past for a few hours (no email then). But despite that, I'm staying with hostmonster for the foreseeable future. Why? Because their chat service is instant (less than 5 mins). If I get a crappy tech support guy, I wait a bit and open a new chat and it's usually someone more knowledgeable. Aside from website uptime (99%), their shared hosting plan prices are rock solid. 3 years @ $4.95 or $6.95? Yes, please. If you want your hand held, I don't recommend hostmonster. But if you're a bit knowledgeable or can learn how to install/fix something from YouTube, I recommend going with hostmonster.
